Jailbreak has been available for the iPod "3G" Model, (Basically is the 2nd gen but with new software already loaded) Still tethered! But if you use "Rock" the jailbreak app (Well one of them, kinda like cydia or installer) ROCK is awesome! Best I have ever used it backs up your "apps" "Settings" ect. So well it deserves 5 stars! Use Rock not cydia! I was wrong on that part. Use what you think is comfortable. If your a first time user, try both. (BUT ONLY LOAD ONE AT A TIME (DO NOT DOWNLOAD BOTH AT THE SAME TIME) THAT WAY LESS SPACE FOR ERROR) Anyways look up videos regairding the iPod jalbreak if you want to see more!
